Maggie
Inspiring Novelist
Born in Havana, Cuba, in 1957—two years prior to the Communist revolution—Maggie’s family (her maternal grandmother, sister, and mother) immigrated to the United States in 1967. Her beloved father was forced to stay behind due to his profession as a doctor, an event that would mark Maggie in many ways. The family settled in Bellaire, a suburb of Houston, Texas, where Maggie came of age.
She relocated to Miami, Florida, to study nursing and later practiced her craft in Whittier, California. After Hurricane Andrew, Maggie moved back to Miami to be near her family and continue her college education.
With an emphasis on community-based organizations, she held several positions developing, writing, managing, and heading programs to assist low-income and special populations in achieving economic self-sufficiency. Her skills later translated to an investigative role, rooting out abuse and misuse of public funds.
After retiring from the public sector, Maggie developed and ran the administrative arm of her construction company, from which she eventually retired. She now travels the world, growing spiritually while collecting memories, knowledge, and friendships.
Maggie has four children: two boys, two girls, and five grandchildren. She currently uses Miami as her home base. She continues to travel the world in the company of her Boston Terrier, Macarena. Book 2 of the Traveling Souljourner Series, The Maharaja’s New Clothes, is currently being written.
